Client / Mandate complexity

Our client oversee a large portfolio across multiple sectors. To drive performance, they needed a clearer, more consistent view of data across their companies. Better visibility into that data was essential to understanding portfolio company performance and identifying where value could be created. There was also a need to use AI to automate internal processes, particularly around due diligence and reporting. The aim was simple: reduce manual work and improve the quality and speed of insight.

Key requirements

A highly technical and analytical background, combined with a strong understanding of private equity. Equally comfortable working with data and with people. Able to manage stakeholders effectively, with the judgement and emotional intelligence required to operate in complex environments.

Constraints or sensitivities

The available talent pool was limited, with few candidates offering directly relevant experience. The contrast with the US market was clear, where the depth of experience in comparable roles is significantly greater. Budget constraints also narrowed the field, requiring careful prioritisation and a focused search.

Market mapping and intelligence

We mapped the major consultancies to understand how they were approaching the problem. In parallel, we analysed private equity firms that had already invested in data science capabilities. The market was familiar to us. We knew where the strongest talent was likely to be and focused the search accordingly.
